PROTECT-EUROPE is an EU4Health project that champions gender-neutral vaccination programmes in EU member states to protect everyone against cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) e.g. cervical, anal, penile, vaginal, vulval, and head & neck.

As part of the project, we are delivering a series of ten masterclasses on different aspects of HPV vaccination, and all contributing to more effective public health messaging on the virus and the vaccine.

Our eighth masterclass was held on 29 October, about the overwhelming financial incentives for HPV vaccination.

Vaccination is a uniquely powerful tool for improving public health, but it can also reduce public expenditures – for cancer treatments, hospitalisations, and continuing care.

By reducing the number of cancer cases, we can enhance productivity and improve the quality of life for millions of people across Europe. When we have the facts, the conclusion is inescapable: investing in HPV vaccination makes common sense.

This masterclass explored these benefits in greater detail, illustrating how HPV vaccination can be a cornerstone of both healthcare efficiency and modern economic resilience.
